Active Dorset are proud to support the launch of a national racial equality commitment from the Active Partnerships network.
The national statement highlights the collaborative action across the network in our collective commitment to be anti-racist organisations and to proactively tackle the racial inequalities that prevent or discourage people from leading active lives and enjoying the benefits of sport and physical activity.
We acknowledge as an organisation that we must do more to address racism and racial inequalities within sport and physical activity in Dorset, and we are committed to do so.
As a first step to recognising our organisational responsibility we have created an equality and diversity working group within our team. This team will create a diversity and equality action plan that is embedded within our updated 2021- 25 Active Dorset strategy.
In recent months we have analysed our recruitment process for staff and board members. We have made changes to our processes and procedures as we aim to be a fully inclusive employer and to build a diverse team.
We understand the importance of both organisational and personal responsibility in becoming an anti-racist organisation, and have dedicated time to staff development, to improve understanding of the historic and systemic issues that are embedded within society.
We will build anti-racist practice into everything we do. We understand that this requires us to recognise our weaknesses, be open and responsible for making positive change to our working practices and for individual and collective commitment to taking action to become a truly inclusive, anti-racist organisation.
