New guidance has been released in September 2020 by 'Governor for Schools'. It is designed to support boards of governors with their role to help headteachers/school leadership teams (SLTs) in developing their school's mental health strategy for 2020-21. This guidance aims to:
• Provoke governor's understanding of mental themes relevant to the school community
• Enhance discussion between governors and the headteacher/senior leadership team of the school in relation to the relevant themes
To complement these discussions, Active Dorset would like to endorse the national 'Active Lives Survey for Children and Young People (CYP)' as a means for headteachers, SLTs and governors to gain actual measures of mental wellbeing, physical literacy, resilience and levels of social trust of for their cohort of children and young people.
To drive school improvement across schools in BCP and Dorset, Active Dorset works with partners such as Public Health Dorset, BCP council and Dorset Council through a system change approach.
Our key aim is for increased numbers of children and young people to be supported to become more physically active and physically literate.
Supporting schools to meet the CMO guidelines for physical activity, will embrace all forms of wellbeing - from social and emotional, to physical and mental. Better health and wellbeing outcomes will influence happiness, readiness to learn and attainment in school, for all CYP.
