The Dorset Leadership Academy completes its 8th year

Bryanston School hosted the Dorset Leadership Academy on 17th December with hundreds of young people from Dorset schools being enthusiastically trained in a variety of leadership roles.

Nearly 450 students from 36 schools across the county attended the event, the eighth successive year that the Dorset Leadership Academy has taken place.

The Dorset Leadership Academy is funded by Active Dorset via Sport England with Department of Education funding, with the countywide event planned by Christchurch & Purbeck School Games Organiser (SGO), Dan Moody, who commented; "The event brings schools together from all over the county with the aim to develop leadership and employability skills in young people. These young leaders and volunteers can make a significant difference by engaging the least active, making sport inclusive for all".

For thousands of young people in Dorset, their leadership journey started with the many Primary Leadership Academies which are planned and delivered by Dorset's School Games Organisers. These events equip young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to act as sport and activity champions within their schools. 1,050 primary school children were trained in 2019.

"Dan and the SGO's put in an incredible amount of effort to make the leadership events, primary and secondary, so successful and we are really grateful. Over 8,000 young people have been involved in 8 years so far. Our thanks go to the many partners that help to make this a success, not least Bryanston School for giving us the opportunity to use their outstanding facilities" said Active Dorset's Operations Manager, Gary Head.
