Active Dorset's Active Ageing project aims to support sustained physical activity behaviour in Dorset's 55-65 year old population by providing individuals with the skills and advice that will help them to feel more confident in being regularly physically active, embedding this behaviour into their everyday lives and improving the health of the ageing population of Dorset in the future.
The project aims to stimulate change at scale, much of this possible through collaborative working. Thus, part of the project is identifying key areas where we can create an impact, working with organisations and partners that share our aims.
The Stepping into Nature project's aims (to support people to be happier and healthier by connecting with nature, including those living with dementia and their carers) are supportive of the Active Ageing project, therefore we have been working together, alongside Dorset Wildlife Trust's 'Natural Choices' project to deliver community engagement events which showcase local opportunities for people to access nature and be more active – these events are branded Picnic in the Park 'Living Well, Loving Nature'. We aim to deliver these across the county throughout the next few years – look out for them in your area or search 'Picnic in the Park' on Facebook.
