#JoinMe Campaign encourages Dorset to move more

This summer Public Health Dorset, LiveWell Dorset and Active Dorset are leading a physical activity campaign called #JoinMe. We want to encourage people aged 50-65 who are not currently active to take the plunge, join in with a friend and move more. The campaign will run until 30 September.

Most people know they should do some physical activity but may not know where to start and feel daunted by the thought of joining a gym, taking up a new sport alone or taking on a big physical challenge. The campaign will focus on making small changes so physical activity becomes and enjoyable part of their everyday life.

We'll be encouraging people to set achievable goals and celebrate every little victory. The idea is that you don't need a gym membership or top-of-the-range clothing or equipment to move more. There are lots of simple ways we can increase our activity throughout the day.

Another key part of the campaign is to encourage people to enjoy the social side of physical activity with friends, family and colleagues. Feeling worried about starting a new activity alone can be a barrier to getting active, so we hope the campaign will get people enjoying exercise together.

We want people to engage with the campaign on social media and share what they are doing with us using the hashtag #JoinMe. To encourage this, we're running a competition to win a Fitbit for people who share their activity photos;

We also want to create more content throughout the campaign using case studies and examples where people are getting more active and enjoying a new activity with friends, family or colleagues. If you or someone you know would be happy to share their experience or top tips with us please email lucy.mears@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk.
