In September and October two cancer wellbeing events were held at the Lighthouse Poole and Village Hotel Bournemouth. These form the start of regular wellbeing events for anyone undergoing treatment for cancer at Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals. Patients are invited to wellbeing events by their health care professional, in a similar way to the booking of their next outpatient appointment, and are a way of supporting recovery for people living with and beyond cancer. The focus of these events is on cancer recovery and living well, encouraging people to move more by showcasing the support services and physical activity opportunities available across Dorset.
These wellbeing events form part of the Active Ageing project which seeks to change health care pathways, embedding physical activity and health promotion messages across healthcare systems. Events are delivered and organised in partnership with the following stakeholders; cancer services at both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals, LiveWell Dorset and Active Dorset.
Charlie Coward, Active Ageing Project Manager commented; "We hope that these events will provide those attending with the knowledge, support and confidence to make small behaviour changes, helping them to live well for longer."
A special thanks goes to the exhibiting organisations, who were showcasing support services and physical activity opportunities avaliable; BH Live, Active4Health, Poole Leisure Services, LEAP energy advice, Raising Voices, Pink Champagne, LiveWell Dorset, Active Dorset, Poole Wellbeing Collaborative, Natural Choices, Wessex Cancer Trust, Macmillan, Dorset Cancer Patient Group, Everyone Active, Nordic Walking UK.
