Over 140 Headteachers, PE Teachers and School Governors attended the Active Dorset PE & School Sport Conference on Friday 28thSeptember at Queen Elizabeth's School. The theme for this year was Active Children = Happy + Healthy + Successful Futures and began with a very motivational keynote presentation from Dr William Bird; Intelligent Health Chief Executive. Dr Bird explained the benefits of physical activity, particularly in green spaces and announced the launch of Beat the Street; a fun challenge to encourage walking, running and cycling, which is coming to Weymouth, Portland, Purbeck & Poole on the 3rd October!
Over 40 exhibitors who also attended the conference from partner organisations, had the opportunity to present their school offers to the delegates.
For the first time, the conference hosted a Panel Q&A session, chaired by Dr Jo Harris from Loughborough University. Panellists included Martin Kimberley; Active Dorset Chief Executive, Rachel Partridge; Assistant Director of Public Health Dorset and Chris Ellis; Youth Sport Trust National Development Team Leader.
Martin Kimberly, Active Dorset Chief Executive commented; "We hope the conference provided delegates with information so that they can find areas to develop further, increasing the impact of physical, social and mental wellbeing on school staff and pupils."
Our thanks go to Queen Elizabeth's School (QE) for hosting the event and to all the speakers, presenters and partners who made the event possible.
