New Green Paper about Improving Mental Health Provision in Schools

New Green Paper about Improving Mental Health Provision in Schools

The Government is calling for responses to a new green paper setting out measures to improve mental health support for children and young people. The focus will be on earlier intervention and prevention, especially in and linked to schools/colleges.

The proposals include:

  • creating a new, community-based mental health workforce
  • encouraging every school/college to appoint a designated lead for mental health
  • to pilot a new 4-week waiting time for NHS CYP mental health services in some schools
  • to revise the mental health support for 16 to 25-year-olds
  • a report by the CMO in 2018, on the impact of technology on children and young people's mental health

The consultation on the green paper will run for 13 weeks until 2 March 2018.
