Pro Active Communities Project Launched in Half Term

Active Dorset's ProActive Communities programme kicked off in October, offering FREE Basketball, Handball and Rugby Union sessions during the half term break. Qualified coaches from South Coast Tigers Basketball Club, Poole Phoenix Handball Club and Rippa Rugby delivered fun sessions for all ages, abilities, male and female.

The free-to-attend sessions took place in Boscombe, West Howe and Alderney and all sessions were kept as central as possible to enable anyone from the local community to take part.

Throughout the week, there were a total of 329 attendances with 25 people attending the most popular session. This result exceeded Active Dorset's expectations and local clubs have had membership enquiries from a number of participants. Even the local Police Support Officers joined in at sessions in West Howe!

Active Dorset's Pro Active Communities scheme is also funding free swimming for those over 60 in the Alderney/Rossmore area, and looking to start Table Tennis sessions in Poole Housing Partnership's new housing area in Trinidad, Poole. Furthermore, Active Dorset will be looking to replicate October's success in February half term next year.

Active Dorset would like to thank South Coast Tigers, Poole Phoenix Handball Club and Rippa Rugby for their fantastic efforts during October half term.
