New Multi-Sport Hub Opening at The Grange School

Your Sport Hubs are produced by Active Dorset as part of the Satellite Clubs scheme run by Sport England. Satellite Clubs are extensions or outposts of community sports clubs which are established in a new venue, usually a secondary school or college. Their purpose is to grow the number of young people playing sport as well as reducing the number of young people dropping out.

The second Your Sport Hub launches Friday 18th November from 5:30pm at The Grange School, Christchurch, where participants of all abilities will have the opportunity to take part in badminton, dodgeball, netball and more! The sessions will then take place every Friday at the same time (excluding school holidays). Sessions cost £2 and all participants will get their first visit to the hub free of charge!

Your Sport Hubs offer a social youth club environment and active feedback is welcome on all activities and sports via the Your Sport Activators, who strive to put on activities that suit the participants. The aim is for the activities to grow around the suggestions of the participants, facilitated by the young Activators who help to lead the day-to-day running of the hubs.

Fran Strange, Active Dorset's Satellite Club Lead, commented; "Active Dorset believe that sport brings people together and creating Hubs have been a fantastic opportunity to do so. Social sport is incredibly important in developing young people's life skills, including communication and teamwork, and these Hubs also give the participants the chance to try new things and meet new people. They are a great way to involve both the school and the local community in a social, fun and friendly environment."

The first hub at The LeAF Academy Multi Sports Centre launched in October and participant numbers are growing week on week. Lead facilitator of the LeAF Academy Your Sport Hub Lewie Lett coached the Team GB Beach Volleyball team for three years, reaching the top 30 in the world and qualifying for 2015 European Games.

Lewie commented; "I'm really excited about the Your Sport sessions. It's a big opportunity give back to up and coming coaches, while delivering a really special and fun concept to the youth within the area."

Your Sport Hubs, funded by Sport England, intend to grow the number of young people playing sport by offering a range of sports and activities within a social environment with the aim to open more hubs across Dorset.
