Your Sport Hubs are produced by Active Dorset as part of the Satellite Clubs scheme run by Sport England. Satellite Clubs are extensions or outposts of community sports clubs which are established in a new venue, usually a secondary school or college. Their purpose is to grow the number of young people playing sport as well as reducing the number of young people dropping out.
The fun kicks off on Tuesday 11th October from 5:30pm at LeAF Multi Sports Centre where participants will have the opportunity to take part in badminton, dodgeball, volleyball and more! The sessions will then take place every Tuesday at the same time, where all abilities are welcome. Sessions cost £2 and all participants will get their first visit to the hub free of charge!
The hubs offer a social youth club environment and active feedback is welcome on all activities and sports via the Your Sport Activators, who strive to put on activities that suit the participants. The aim is for the activities to grow around the suggestions of the participants, facilitated by the young Activators who help to lead the day-to-day running of the hubs.
Lead facilitator of the LeAF Academy Your Sport Hub Lewie Lett coached the Team GB Beach Volleyball team for three years, reaching the top 30 in the world and qualifying for 2015 European Games. Lewie has just returned from Rio where he was commentating at the Olympics & Paralympics. Having worked in over 80 schools coaching and running leadership projects Lewie will be a great support to the young Activators leading the sessions.
Lewie commented; "I'm really excited about the Your Sport sessions, I have just set up a company called Playground To Performance which specialises in developing learning, leadership and well-being through sport and also coach education. It's a big opportunity to combine the two strands of the company, give back to up and coming coaches, while delivering a really special and fun concept to the youth within the area."
Your Sport Hubs, funded by Sport England, intend to grow the number of young people playing sport by offering a range of sports and activities within a social environment with the aim to open more hubs across Dorset.
