This summer has seen an exciting programme of School Games competitions and events including: Table Tennis; Primary Swimming Galas; and the Sailing and Windsurfing events, which took place in Poole and Weymouth. They proved extremely popular with the pupils and staff alike, catering for a wide range of abilities.
Over 100 participants from 15 different schools took part in the Table Tennis Competition, with 24 leaders from Harewood College officiating the matches. Teams from: Highcliffe; Bournemouth School for Girls; and Budmouth claimed the Gold medals in various age groups.
Children from across Dorset took part in the Primary Swimming Galas, with over 500 children swimming altogether. Poole won the Year 4 event with Bournemouth 2nd and East Dorset 3rd. The Year 5 & 6 Gala was won by West Dorset, with Poole 2nd and North Dorset 3rd.
In the Sailing events, children from Lytchett Matravers Primary School, Baden Powell & St Peter's CE Junior, Bournemouth Collegiate Preparatory, St. Martin's Primary, Bincombe Valley Primary and Talbot Heath School competed in pairs racing with a teacher's race before lunchtime. A very well sailed event by the children of Lytchett Matravers Primary and a win for Mrs Cotterill saw them take the overall Primary School gold medal with Baden Powell & St Peter's CE Junior and Bournemouth Collegiate Preparatory taking second and third place respectively.
As the nine Secondary school teams took to the water on day 2 the wind picked up and provided great conditions for some excellent sailing on the lake. The grand final was won by Matthew of Poole Grammar, Oliver of Dorchester Schools took second and Harry from All Saints School sailed into third. With these final results the overall Secondary School gold medal went to Poole Grammar, silver to All Saints and Dorchester took the bronze.
