Equality

Sports equality is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.

With the introduction of protected characteristics in the Equality Act 2010, Active Dorset re-submitted evidence for and achieved the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard and our policy is available for download below.

Racial Equality Commitment

Active Dorset are proud to support the launch of a national racial equality commitment from the Active Partnerships network.

The national statement highlights the collaborative action across the network in our collective commitment to be anti-racist organisations and to proactively tackle the racial inequalities that prevent or discourage people from leading active lives and enjoying the benefits of sport and physical activity.

We acknowledge as an organisation that we must do more to address racism and racial inequalities within sport and physical activity in Dorset, and we are committed to do so.

Inclusive Sport

Inclusion: the action or state of including or of being included within a group or structure. Inclusion in sport should be about not excluding anyone no matter their age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation or marriage status. Active Dorset will proactively support activities that include disadvantaged groups as surveys show they are the least represented in sport, whether it be as a participant, manager, coach or official.

Disability Sport

Active Dorset Activity Partnership is committed to working towards increasing inclusion and developing sustainable and accessible sport and active recreation for disabled people in Dorset.

We work with a range of organisations and partners across the county is to coordinate the development of disability sport across the county, and to achieve greater sporting equality. These include National Governing Bodies of sport, health partners, voluntary organisations, schools, local authorities and facility providers. Increasingly there is greater equity provision being provided through the county-wide Dorset School Games Programme.
