What is Aikido?
In Aikido there is no aggression, tension or competition. Classes are suitable for all levels of fitness and may be practised equally by men and women of any size, age or ability. Aikido techniques consist of entering and turning movements that redirect the momentum of an opponent's attack, and a throw or joint lock that terminates the technique.
Benefits
Aikido teaches coordination, physical and mental / emotional awareness, relaxation, flexibility and confidence all whilst learning effective martial techniques.
Equipment
The uniform worn for practicing aikido is similar to the training uniform used in most other modern martial arts; simple trousers and a wraparound jacket, usually white. Both thick ("judo-style"), and thin ("karate-style") cotton tops can be worn. Aikido-specific tops are available with shorter sleeves which reach to just below the elbow.
