About Us

Active Dorset is one of 49 County Sports Partnerships in England largely funded by Sport England to co-ordinate activity and sports programmes in Dorset.

Our main task is to get more people involved in physical activity and raise activity levels by 1% per annum, over the next 14 years, to reach the national 50% target by 2020. (Defined as participating in 30 minutes of moderate exercise five times a week - when we feel we are just beginning to get out of breath and still enjoying whatever it is we are doing).

Whilst we continue to deliver many of the key components of Active Sports, we are also evolving and expanding into new areas. Our key areas of work will be supporting the capacity and effectiveness of community based voluntary sport across Dorset, developing stonger communication and linkages across the various partners and stakeholders with an interest and involvement in sport, and getting more people actively involved in participating in sport and physical activity.

We aim to publicise the excellent opportunities which already exist in Dorset and will be boosted by London winning the 2012 Olympic Games. We also set in motion new opportunities wherever there is a need.

We have a strong passion and love of our work and for the positive benefits sport can give to those who participate in it, at whatever level. We also believe that what we do should be enjoyable, whether we're at work, rest or play!

Our focus is on people - ultimately we are about people.

Active Dorset promotes a huge number of events, including 2007's Community Sports Festivals, Dorset Active Leisure Month, Special Olympics National Athletics Championships, Race for Life and Bay Run events and the Step into Sport Conference. Visit our online calendar for more details.

Team Work

As the '5 years to 2012 Opening Ceremony' milestone recently passed, we launched the 'Team Dorset - Together Building a Legacy' at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. This marks another step towards what will be a once in a lifetime event. The impact of the Games and partners, business and communities working together will achieve a legacy for many lifetimes, particularly for sport and physical activity.

We are asking all organisations and individuals who value sport and are interested in encouraging more people to participate in sport to sign up, and show their support for a lasting legacy through use of the 'Team Dorset' logo. Please download and use the logo to demonstrate your public commitment to and belief in the 'Team'.

Contact us if you would like to work with us, meet with one of our team or know more about what we do.
