Child Protection

Sport has undergone a sea change in culture around safeguarding and child protection. Active Dorset has committed to this by appointing Tony Jones-Pert as Designated Officer. Tony has undergone extensive training with the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) and Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset Local Authorities and also sits on a working group for Bournemouth & Poole Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).

In March 2009 Active Dorset achieved the Advanced Standard, awarded by the CPSU and we have now signed up to the CPSU's 'A Call To Action', a refreshed vision to renew the call to all organisations to safeguard children and young people in and through sport.

During 2011 we will be working with National Governiong Bodies of Sport, School Sports Partnerships and local authorities to ensure that safegaurding practice in sport is established and embedded in Dorset.

Active Dorset is dedicated to working in partnership with all agencies to ensure that information and training opportunities are available for all staff and volunteers to guide them in best practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

If you want to view video clips of possible safeguarding situations that commonly arise in sports settings and how to deal with them the CPSU has produced these excellent resources

These videos will help anyone involved in sports activities with children and young people by providing advice and guidance about how to respond to them..
