Community Interest Companies (CICs) are limited companies, with special additional features, created for the use of people who want to conduct a business or other activity for community benefit, and not purely for private advantage.
This is achieved by a "community interest test" and "asset lock", which ensure that the CIC is established for community purposes and the assets and profits are dedicated to these purposes.
Active Dorset's registration as a CIC in June 2009 was approved by the Regulator who also has a continuing monitoring and enforcement role.
Our Community Interest Statement describes the benefit we aim to bring to our community -
'Active Dorset will provide benefit to the population of the geographic county of Dorset, in particular those with an aspiration to become, or who are currently engaged in sport or physical activity .'
Our Company objects are -
'To promote, and act as a strategic lead among organisations in the promotion of participation and engagement in sport and physical activity amongst the population within the geographic area of the county of Dorset.'
